DOH logs 6,637 new COVID-19 cases


The Department of Health (DOH) reported 6,637 additional coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases in the country on Thursday, May 6.

The new cases brought the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the Philippines to 1,080,172, wherein 5.8 percent or 63,170 are active or those who are still being treated.

Based on the latest case bulletin, 94.3 percent of the active cases have mild symptoms, 1.9 percent have no symptoms, 1.2 percent are in critical condition, 1.6 percent are severe, and 1.03 percent are moderate cases.

Meanwhile, 6,091 more patients have been cleared from the disease, raising the recovery count to 999,011 or 92.5 percent of the country's total case count.

The death toll, however, reached 17,991 or 1.67 percent of the country's overall case tally - after the DOH reported 191 new fatalities.

On Wednesday night, DOH Secretary Francisco Duque III said that they are observing a decreasing trend in the number of COVID-19 cases daily. Since April 19, the Philippines has been recording less than 10,000 cases per day.
