5.1-magnitude quake hits Davao del Sur

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said the quake took place 7 kilometers (km) southwest of Magsaysay town in Davao del Sur at 2:21 p.m.

State seismologists said the quake had a depth of focus of 20 km and was tectonic in origin.

Phivolcs said Intensity V was felt in Koronadal City, South Cotabato; while Intensity IV was measured in Bansalan, Matanao, Hagonoy and Padada in Davao del Sur; Davao City; Digos City; Kidapawan City; and Tupi, South Cotabato.

Meanwhile, Intensity III was felt in Lake Sebu and Tampakan, South Cotabato; Antipas, Kabacan, Matalam, and M’lang, Cotabato; as well as in Columbio and Kalamansig, Sultan Kudarat; while Intensity II was measured in Pikit, Cotabato; Isulan, Sultan Kudarat; Alabel, Sarangani; and General Santos City.

Also, Phivolcs recorded instrumental intensities reaching Intensity V in Koronadal City, South Cotabato, Intensity IV in Kidapawan City and Davao City; and Intensity II in Kiamba, Sarangani and General Santos City.

The agency said aftershocks are expected following the quake.
