Shunning special treatment like she always does, Vice President Leni Robredo returned to her home in Camarines Sur to register on the Philippine Identification System (PhilSys).
In photos posted by her fellow Bicolanos on Facebook, Robredo was seen sitting in a chair having her biometric information being taken by Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) personnel for the national ID.
“For her National ID, Madam Vice President Leni Robredo registers at Philsys Registration Center in Camarines Sur today,” Mhentz Manaog said in a post on Tuesday, May 4.
Her post was accompanied by Robredo’s photos showing she had her fingerprint and photograph taken at the registration center. She also submitted the required documents for the PhilSys registration.
Prior to this, a village official also posted photos of Robredo applying for a barangay clearance in Magarao, Camarines Sur. It is one of the supporting documents for the national ID registration.
In August 2018, President Duterte signed Republic Act 11055 or the Philippine Identification System Act that requires Filipinos to register with the new ID system. The single ID card for citizens aims to boost public service delivery as well as curtail bureaucratic red tape.
Duterte then approved the P3.52-billion additional budget for the implementation of the national ID system that will cover 20 million more registrants to the PhilSys this year.
Technical difficulties, however, affected the first day of the online registration for the country’s national ID system last April 30 as the website was unable to handle the traffic due to huge number of registrants causing the system to slow down.
The vice president had registered to the national ID system a few days after last week’s pilot launch.
She was in Camarines Sur, particularly in the town of Lupi, also to oversee the ongoing construction of her office’s third Angat Buhay Village that provided 120 homes for 120 displaced families. The beneficiaries were victims of Typhoon Ulysses last November 2020 who lost their homes because of heavy flooding.
