A police sergeant assigned in Antique is facing a string of administrative and criminal charges for allegedly beating his live-in partner and even tried to shoot two responding policemen in Pandan town, the Internal Affairs Service reported on Wednesday, May 5.
Police Col. Roger James Brillantes, director of the IAS-Police Regional Office 6, said they have already initiated the conduct of investigation for filing of administrative charges against Police Staff Sgt. Jhun Alvarez based on the complaint of the mother of his live-in partner and the two operatives of the Pandan Municipal Police Station. Alvarez is also assigned to the Pandan Municipal Police Station.
Brillantes told the Manila Bulletin that the incident started when the mother of Alvarez's live-in partner, who works as an officer-in-charge of the local office of the Commission on Elections, sought police assistance after learning that her daughter was being physically abused by the policeman in their house in Barangay Tingib on Tuesday night.
The policemen arrived in the area and tried to pacify the Alvarez but the latter, who was reportedly drunk, continue to go berserk. He was then armed by an M16 rifle.
Brillantes said that based on their investigation, Alvarez event went to the extent of pointing his M16 rifle to the two policemen.
"He pointed the gun at the two policemen and fired twice. Luckily, no one was hit," said Brillantes.
The policemen then rushed to Alvarez and eventually subdued him. He was then arrested and taken to the police station. Seized were his M16 rifle and 9mm pistol, both issued by the Philippine National Police.
"The instruction of our Inspector General, Alfegar Triambulo, is to assist in the conduct of internal cleansing against erring and abusive policemen. We are now conducting mou-proprio investigation against this policeman," said Brillantes.
