Virus-hit Hospicio de San Jose seeks cash aid

While donations pour in for welfare institution Hospicio de San Jose, which has been placed on lockdown due to coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases, the orphanage is still "short of cash" and in need of monetary aid.

"We are advising the people who are still asking and who have not yet bought their goods, if it's possible they just give cash assistance because we are really short of cash," Sr. Maria Socorro Pilar Evidente, administrator of Hospicio de San Jose, said in an interview with CNN Philippines on Tuesday, May 4.

Evidente said they spend over a hundred thousand on medicines for the elderly, special children, and adults every month.

The religious-run shelter was placed on lockdown last week after some of its staff and several elderly contracted COVID-19.

Evidente said all its 23 cases are asymptomatic and no longer experiencing fever anymore.

Eight of those who had their swab test on April 21 will again be tested after completing 14 days of quarantine.

"We still have health staff, nurses, and physical therapists who have already been vaccinated and they are the ones who are frontliners now," she added.

"Manageable naman po. Sana hindi na madagdagan that's why we're all very careful (It's manageable. Hopefully no one gets infected anymore that's why we're being very careful)."
