Smart Omega, Liyab Esports top Wild Rift Icon Series PH South Luzon group

Smart Omega and Liyab Esports entered the playoffs of the League of Legends: Wild Rift Southeast Asia Icon Series 2021-Summer Season Philippines after ruling the South Luzon group stage. 

Omega completed a perfect 9-0 run while Liyab ended up a 5-4 win-loss record over the weekend to secure their tickets to the playoffs where they will battle North Luzon winners Team Secret PH and Nexplay Esports for the Summer Super Cup. 

Bannered by tournament MVP John Lloyd "Impressive" Dela Cruz, Gerald "Taymlaps" Bermundo, Ronel "Stronger" Tan, Maynard "Arise" Limon and  Jaiby "JLC" Paglingayen, Omega capped its undefeated campaign with a 2-0 sweep over Liyab on Sunday, May 2. 

Prior to that, Impressive and the crew also crushed Sunsparks and Execration by 2-0 on Saturday after nipping Liyab, 2-1, on Friday to start the second round of the South Luzon group phase.

Omega, which won a total of 18 games and only lost two, earned 450,000 Globe Cup points which is equal to P450,000. 

On the other hand, the Liyab squad composed of Eric "Exosen" Gubatan, Kevin "Gambit" Dizon, Robert "Moraytaboy" Tan, Nicoli "Nicssu" Monetegro and Miguel "Miggie" Banaag had a shaky performance in the second week. 

Exosen and the gang started with a 2-1 win against Execration but then faltered against Omega on Friday. 

They bounced back from 2-0 loss to Sunsparks with a 2-0 a demolition of Execration before capping its campaign with a 2-0 defeat to Omega. 

Liyab, which tallied an 11-11 game record, garnered 250,000 Globe Cup points (P250,000). 

Preseason runner-up Sunsparks (3-6) settled for third and got P150,000 even as Execration wound up dead last (1-8) but still got P50,000 for winning a series.
