2 dead, 1 hurt in Negros Occidental road accident

BACOLOD CITY – Two persons died while another was injured in a road accident involving two trucks and a tricycle in Barangay Tabao Rizal, San Enrique, Negros Occidental last Friday.

The fatalities were identified as Joleto Villahermosa, 25, a helper, of La Castellana, Negros Occidental, and Hermie Hadia, 55, tricycle driver, of Pontevedra, also of Negros Occidental. Injured was truck driver Joshua Junsay, 23, of La Castellana.

Police Lt. Sammy Gasataya, deputy police chief of San Enrique, said the accident happened when the left front tire of a six-wheel truck driven by Junsay exploded, causing the vehicle to swerve to the opposite lane, hitting the Mitsubishi Canter truck driven by 26-year-old Bernan Saladas.

Junsay’s truck loaded with sugarcane then hit a tricycle that was tailing the Canter truck loaded with vegetables, Gasataya said. The tricycle then crashed into two stalls on the roadside, he added.

Gasataya said Villahermosa, who was riding the Canter truck, and Hadia sustained severe injuries that caused their immediate death.

Gasataya said the stall owned by April Joy Donasco was destroyed, while the other owned by Merly Estosos was damaged. Both were unharmed in the accident.

Saladas was also unharmed.

Gasataya said the victims' families and Junsay agreed to meet for a settlement Tuesday.
