DOH records 8,346 new COVID-19 cases


The number of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases in the country further increased on Sunday, May 2, with the addition of 8,000 more new cases.

The case bulletin of the Department of Health (DOH) showed 8,346 new cases of coronavirus infections which brought the total number COVID-19 cases nationwide to 1,054, 983.

The DOH also recorded 9,072 new recoveries and 77 new deaths.

The total recoveries rose to 966,080 while total deaths climbed to 17,431.

Of the 71,472 active cases, 94.7 percent were mild, 1.9 percent were asymptomatic, 1.1 percent were critical, 1.4 percent were severe and 0.90 percent were moderate.

The DOH said 16 duplicates were removed from the total case count, saying 11 of these were recoveries.

"Moreover, 32 cases that were previously tagged as recoveries were reclassified as deaths after final validation," it said.

The Health department said all labs were operational on April 30, 2021 while seven labs were not able to submit their data to the COVID-19 Document Repository System (CDRS).
