No patient shall be denied hospital services – Bulacan Gov. Fernando

Confirmed COVID-19 and non-COVID-19 cases will be both accommodated in Bulacan government hospitals under the province’s COVID-19 Surge Capacity Plan, Governor Daniel Fernando said Friday.

The temporary implementation of the plan aims to address the current COVID-19 surge in the province without disregarding patients with cancer, diabetes, dengue, and other illnesses, according to Fernando.

Under the plan, he said the Bulacan Medical Center (BMC) and the Bulacan Infectious Control Center (BICC) will be the primary referral facilities for moderate to critical, suspect and positive COVID-19 patients.

In his Facebook live last night, Fernando said the district hospitals will attend to non-COVID cases.

He said currently, the BICC can accommodate 134 COVID patients and can expand its bed capacity to 200, while its COVID Intensive Care Unit (ICU) can admit up to 30 critical patients.

They will also put 10 beds for patients who have chronic kidney disease in the facility which has two dialysis machines.

Fernando further said that the Calumpit District Hospital will become a temporary maternity and children’s hospital for non-COVID OB and pediatrics cases; Emilio G. Perez District Hospital in Hagonoy will be a medical and pediatrics hospital; Gregorio Del Pilar District Hospital in Bulakan will function as a surgical hospital; and the San Miguel District Hospital, Baliwag District Hospital and Rogaciano M. Mercado Memorial District Hospital in Santa Maria will continue to serve as general hospitals for non-COVID patients.

The governor clarified that BMC still has the capacity to accommodate emergency cases and will transfer the patients when their conditions stabilize.

The governor said that through this new system, the province can respond to the overwhelming number of COVID and non-COVID cases and save many lives.

Before wrapping up, the provincial chief executive called on the public to be aware of misinformation and political grandstanding intended to steer the Bulakenyos away from the truth.

As of 4 p.m. on April 30, the Provincial Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit (PESU) has verified a total of 180 new laboratory results --150 new cases and 30 late cases.

The total number of confirmed cases verified in the Province of Bulacan is now at 26,417 with 646 deaths and 22,837 recoveries.
