PUP launches 'padyak' community pantry

Drawing inspiration from the different versions of community pantries that have sprouted all over the country, the Polytechnic University of Philippines (PUP) has launched its own mobile community pantry.

Called "Pamantasang Dumadamay sa Komunidad," or simply "PADYAK", goods are distributed among the university's adopted community using a pedicab (pedaled cab).

"PUP Unisan branch had its version of community pantry through "Padyak" as delivery mode of goods for the people of Gawad Kalinga Village in Ibabang Kalilayan, Unisan," Christian Revares, Administrative Aide III of PUP Unisan, wrote on Facebook.

Revares said through the initiative of the university officials, faculty, and administrative personnel, the pedicab was able to distribute canned goods, dried fish, noodles, coffee, sugar, and vegetables to residents in need.

The university has also placed community pantries in its Sta. Mesa, Malunay, Manila, and San Juan campuses.
