DepEd lists 3.5 million early registrants for SY 2021-2022

Despite the ongoing coronavirus disease (COVID-19) situation in the country, more than 3.5 million learners have already registered for the upcoming school year based on the latest data released by the Department of Education (DepEd).

DepEd’s Early Registration Monitoring Report as of April 27 showed that there are 3,514,550 learners nationwide in Kindergarten, Grade 1, Grade 7, and Grade 11 who have registered early for School Year (SY) 2021-2022.

The latest data also showed that the regions with the highest numbers of registered learners include Region VII with 353,399; Calabarzon with 351,882; Region VI with 268,422.

DepEd said that only incoming learners in Kindergarten, Grade 1, Grade 7, and Grade 11 are listed in the early registration.

Of these grade levels, Grade 1 has the most number of early registrants with 1, 320, 945; Grade 7 with 811, 748; Kinder with 763, 767; and Grade 11 with 618, 090.

The early registration started on March 26 and will be open until Friday, April 30, 2021.

“Remote application may be done online or through text,” DepEd said. “Physical registration in schools and barangays in low-risk areas will strictly follow public health and safety protocols,” it added.

Meanwhile, DepEd said learners in Grades 2 to 6, 8 to 10, and 12 are considered “pre-registered” so there is no need for them to participate in the early registration.

The early registration is an annual activity led by DepEd. It is mandatory for public schools and optional for private schools at the basic education level.

The activity aims to ensure learners in the said grade levels, both for public elementary and secondary schools, are pre-registered before the new school year opens.

DepEd said that the number of new entrants in these grade levels will allow the schools to make necessary preparations and plans for the coming school year.

On April 27, an official of DepEd confirmed that a tentative date for the opening of SY 2021-2022 has been set on Aug. 23.
