This was announced by DOST Secretary Fortunato “Boy” T. de la Peña in a Facebook post.

"The DOST-NAST recognizes and provides incentives to Filipino scientists for outstanding achievements in scientific research and development,” he said.

"The DOST-NAST, through its Recognition function, has contributed significantly in promoting and fostering excellence in science and technology research in the country,” he added.

De la Peña said the nomination form can be downloaded at https://nast.ph/index.php/about-nast/functions/recognition.

Launched in 2001, NESA "aims to recognize outstanding scientific and technological research works that have significant contributions to environmental protection and conservation in the country,” the DOST-NAST said.

The award, which was formerly called NAST-Hugh Greenwood Environmental Science Award, was established through the assistance of Dr. Hugh Greenwood, a philanthropist and founder of the Children’s Research Fund in the United States, it said.

Included in the list of NESA recipients were Dr. Damasa Magcale-Macandog (2014), Dr. Severino Salmo (2015), Dr. Arsenio B. Ella (2015), Academician Rex Victor O. Cruz (2016), and Dr. Wilfredo Roehl Licuanan (2018).
