Former PH boxer Basadre dies at 35

The Association of Boxing Alliances in the Philippines (ABAP) announces with deep sorrow the passing Sunday of former national boxer Genebert Basadre of Cagayan de Oro City.

He was 35 years old.

He left ABAP in 2010 to concentrate on his service for the Philippine Army but still helped out as coach to boxers of his home city.

Sketchy information from CDO reveals the former welterweight collapsed at his home in the northern Mindanao city last Monday and was brought to the Polymedic Plaza Hospital.

He was revived the following day but eventually went into coma.

He died Sunday morning at the said hospital.

ABAP secretary-general Ed Picson expressed shock on receiving the news.

“He was so young and was dedicated, soft-spoken and well-liked. The news is startling, to say the least”, Picson said.
