“Digital transformation is one of the key priorities,” said Cristine Mansinares, officer-in-charge of the DOT in Western Visayas.

While the pandemic’s restrictions are still hindering the regional tourism industry, Manisares believes that digital content and interaction can pave way for the tourism industry to be prepared and pick up the pieces once the situation normalizes.

“We are planning to incorporate a chat bot that will answer queries 24/7,” said Manisares, who formally took over last April 17.

Manisares also pointed out that DOT Region 6 will  provide assistance to local government units (LGUs) in assessing the readiness of destinations and establishments to serve the public, especially its health and safety protocols.
Mansinares replaced lawyer Helen Catalbas, who retired after serving DOT for 44 years, eight of which as regional director.

Mansinares, who previously served the provincial tourism officer of Negros Occidental, considered her new assingment as a “challenging time to lead the industry” that is feeling the effects of the pandemic.
