TAMAUINI, Isabela — The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Isabela First District Engineering Office has completed the P17-million Barangay Caligayan flood control project here.
Wilson Valdez, DPWH regional information officer, said the project which started last Nov. 29 includes the construction of a 478-linear meter flood control structure using gabions.
Valdez said the infrastructure will reduce the detrimental effects of floods and landslides to lives and properties in low-lying areas.
He added the project will also help protect properties in flood zones and decrease the rate of erosion thus preventing foundation and structural damage on the long run.
The project will prevent flooding in farmlands and other agricultural areas, increasing production and economic growth for communities.
Isabela, the biggest province in Region 2 or Cagayan Valley, is one of the premier provinces in Northern Luzon and has been dubbed as the “Rice Granary of the North.”
