PCG records over 2,700 stranded passengers in ports due to ‘Bising’

Almost 2,800 passengers were stranded in various ports of the country due to rough sea conditions and heavy rains brought by typhoon “Bising” (international name: “Surigae”), the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) said on Tuesday, April 20.

As of 4 a.m. on Tuesday, the PCG said a total of 2,792 passengers were stranded in Eastern Visayas, Bicol, Central Visayas, and North Eastern Mindanao regions, most of them were passengers, drivers, and cargo helpers.

On the other hand, the PCG reported that at least 55 vessels and 54 motor bancas were also forced to take shelter.

The PCG suspended the shipping operations until Tuesday as a precautionary measure due to the threat of strong winds and storm surge as warned by weather experts.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said typhoon “Bising” further weakened while moving north slowly over the Philippine Sea on Tuesday. It added that heavy to intense rainfall may persist over Catanduanes, while moderate to heavy rains may affect the eastern portion of Camarines Sur and Rapu-Rapu Islands.
