Fans of the 2016 fantasy drama ‘Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo’ have been clamoring for a sequel after the cliffhanger ending of the drama.

Lead stars IU and Lee Joon Gi recently got together to discuss that they actually filmed a different ending that would have given fans the closure that they needed to move on.

In the recent NaverNOW event entitled DREAM, which was held to celebrate Lee Joon Gi’s birthday, IU was one of the well wishers who shared many happy memories about their filming of the drama.

They talked about filming a different ending scene wherein Wang So, the character played by Lee Joon Gi crosses over to Hae Soo’s time.

It can be recalled that the drama ended with Hae Soo looking at a portrait of Wang So at a gallery and remembering the man she fell in love with.

Fans believed that a second season would have taken the prince to the modern time when he would have to adapt to Hae Soo’s life.

However, the second season never materialized because the planned ending was originally for Wang So’s final scene to be in the modern world, meeting Hae Soo again.

Fans recalled IU posting two behind the scenes images in 2016 where she was crying sorrowfully and a man hands her a handkerchief.

"Our actress Lee Ji Eun (IU) did a great job during that scene. She showed amazing emotions that day. I think about how someone could even cry so sorrowfully," Lee Joon GI said.

IU confirmed that the last scene would have been a shot of Wang So in modern attire.

"You look really amazing during that part. In the modern day scene, where you have short hair and are dressed in a beautiful suit, and handed me a handkerchief."

So there. ‘Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo’ had a happy ending for your beloved Wang So and Hae Soo. Mystery solved.
