Rape suspect shot dead inside Nueva Vizcaya police station

SOLANO, Nueva Vizcaya – A 31-year-old landlord accused of raping a three-year-old girl was shot dead Saturday night allegedly after he grabbed the firearm of an investigator inside the police station here.

Police said rape suspect Delmar Cadiente, 31, also a businessman, of Barangay Osmena, this town, succumbed to three bullet  wounds in the body.

Prior to the incident, police arrested Cadiente after his lady tenant filed a complaint against him for allegedly raping her three-year-old daughter, according to a report from the office of Police Col. Ranser Evasco, Nueva Vizcaya police director.

The victim claimed the suspect sexually abused her in a vacant room of the house around Saturday noon.

Police said investigators were taking the suspect’s fingerprints as part of the booking procedure at the police station’s Women and Children’s Desk (WCD) at about 6 p.m. when he suddenly grabbed the service firearm of Police Corporal Mark Galut.

As the suspect was about to aim the gun at Galut, Police Capt. Jet C. Sayno, Solano police chief, fired shots at him.

“Ina-assist ko na matignan ang suspek habang nasa loob ng station subalit biglang inagaw ang baril ni Galut (I was assisting in the booking procedures against the suspect when he suddenly grabbed Galut’s service firearm),” Sayno said.

The three-year-old girl was inside the other room of the police station when the incident happened, police said.
