2 more cops die of COVID-19


Two police sergeants died of health complications due to the coronavirus, the recent coronavirus disease (COVID-19)-related deaths in the Philippine National Police (PNP).

Police Lt. Gen. Guillermo Lorenzo Eleazar, commander of the Administrative Support for COVID-19 Task Force (ASCOTF), said the latest deaths brought to 51 the total number of fatalities in the PNP due to the virus.

He said the 50th fatality was a 49-year old Police Executive Master Sergeant assigned to the Police Regional Office 12 who died on April 14.

The 51st, he said, was a 40-year old Staff Sergeant assigned to the Police Regional Office Cordillera. He died on April 17.

The report of the death of two policemen came with the 125 new cases in the PNP. Of the figure, 118 of them were new infections while seven were classified as re-infection.

A total of 18, 531 PN personnel have been infected by the virus since last year, a total of 16,024 of them were able to fully recover.

Currently, Eleazar said there are 2,276 active cases in the PNP, most of them are in various isolation facilities in various parts of the country.
