The facilities, which include a 10-room intensive care unit (ICU) and a 21-room isolation and monitoring facility, were built to augment the Batangas Medical Center (BatMC) in handling COVID-19 cases.

According to DPWH Undersecretary Emil Sadain, the facilities “are being readied for operation” following a final punchlisting conducted Saturday.

“With completed civil works and medical equipment now being set-up, the facility should be ready by first week of May 2021 to accommodate the surge in cases including spillover patient from Metro Manila and nearby province in Southern Tagalog Region,” Dr. Ramoncito Magnaye, chief of the Batangas Medical Center, said.

The medical facilities are located in a 3,678 square meter rotonda lot in front of the hospital.

Aside from the treatment and isolation facilities, a makeshift dormitory with 22 rooms was also built within the area. It can accommodate 44 healthcare professionals.

Magnaye also expressed appreciation to the DPWH “for finding ways to support the need for capacity expansion as the medical community of BatMC scrambles to find more space for the treatment of Covid-19 patients.”
