Diocese of San Carlos Bishop Gerardo Alminaza is inviting the faithful in his diocese to take part in the activities to mark the Year of St. Joseph on May 1, Labor Day.
In a circular, Bishop Alminaza enjoined the faithful “to take part in the commemoration of the Day of Consecration to St. Joseph on May 1, which is observed as the Feast of St. Joseph the Worker.” The faithful’s participation, he said, is important as the country is placed under the patronage of St. Joseph amid the pandemic.
Activities for the national consecration include novena masses from April 22 to April 30. On May 1, consecration rites will be held at the National Shrine of Saint Joseph in Mandaue City, Cebu.
Bishop Alminaza, likewise, called on families to take part in the Consecration of the Families to be held on December 8.
Pope Francis has declared Dec. 8, 2020 to Dec. 8, 2021 as the Year of St. Joseph in commemoration of the 150th anniversary of St. Joseph’s declaration as the patron of the Universal Church. St. Joseph is also the patron saint of workers, fathers, and the dying. His other feast day is March 19 as the spouse of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
