This was disclosed by his son, former senator Jinggoy Estrada, in a Facebook post on Friday (April 16).

“We wish to announce that my father had a slight setback last night (April 15) as his doctors found a super imposed bacterial lung infection,” he said.

According to the younger Estrada, his father has been brought back to a non-COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit (ICU) for monitoring and to support his blood pressure.

The lung infection, according to him, caused the former president’s blood pressure to fluctuate.

“But overall, he is stable with high flow oxygen support,” said Estrada.

“Once again, we ask for your prayers for his immediate recovery and also to all those infected with COVID-19.”

On Wednesday (April 14), the former senator announced that his father has been transferred to a regular room.

On April 13, the younger Estrada announced that his father tested negative for COVID-19, sharing a photo of the former president while he was still in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the Cardinal Santos Medical Center in San Juan City.

The 83-year-old former president was brought to the Cardinal Santos Medical Center because he was feeling weak on March 29. He was then found positive for COVID-19.
