Halfway into its Early Registration period, the Department of Education (DepEd) reported that over 2.6 million learners are already considered listed for the upcoming school year.
“'Yung tungkol sa enrollment, magsisimula na tayo ng early registration kasi samantalang lumalaban tayo sa COVID, ginagawa pa rin natin ang ating regular duties sinusunod natin ang ating regular calendar (About the enrollment, we have started with the early registration as we fight COVID, we’re still doing our regular duties and we’re following the regular school calendar),” Education Secretary Leonor Briones said during the Laging Handa public briefing on Tuesday, April 13.
Based on the Early Registration Monitoring Reported provided by DepEd, a total of 2,686,834 learners have participated in the early registration for School Year (SY) 2021-2022 as of April 12.
The latest DepEd data showed that Region IV-A (Calabarzon) has the highest number of registered learners with 290,464; followed by Region VI (Western Visayas) with 216, 237 learners; and Region III (Central Luzon) with 203, 041.
In the National Capital Region (NCR), DepEd said that there are 201, 036 learners who are already early registered for the next school year.
The early registration covers incoming Kindergarten, Grades 1, 7, and 11. The activity is mandatory for public schools and optional for private schools at the basic education level.
Of the grade levels, Grade 1 has the most number of early registrants with 1, 076, 166; Kinder with 586, 184; Grade 7 with 583, 468; and Grade 11 (Senior High School) with 441, 016.
The early registration is an annual activity which aims to ensure learners in the said grade levels - for both public elementary and secondary schools - are pre-registered. The data will allow the DepEd to make necessary preparations and incoming plans for the coming school year.

Meanwhile, DepEd reminded that learners in Grades 2 to 6, 8 to 10, and 12 are considered “pre-registered.” Thus, there is no need for them to participate in the early registration.
In the previous years, early registration is done every last week of January but it was adjusted this year due to the amendments in the school calendar for SY 2020-2021.
