6.1-magnitude quake jolts waters off Sarangani, Davao Occidental


A 6.1 magnitude earthquake rocked waters off Sarangani, Davao Occidental on Saturday afternoon, April 10, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.

The state seismologists bureau said the tectonic quake occurred at 5:30 p.m.

The temblor’s epicenter was plotted 148 kilometers (km) southwest of Sarangani, Davao Occidental, and had a depth of 314 km.

Phivolcs said Intensity III  was felt in General Santos City, while Intensity II was recorded in Monkayo, Davao de Oro.

Instrumental Intensity I was also recorded in Alabel, Sarangani.

State seismologists said aftershocks are expected following the quake, while no damage is expected.

Phivolcs earlier measured the earthquake at 5.9 magnitude.
