4,883 Western Visayas health workers get 2nd dose of COVID-19 vaccine


ILOILO CITY—At least 4,883 health care workers in Western Visayas region have received the second dose of vaccine against coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

Dr. Mary Jane Juanico, chief of the infectious disease cluster of the Department of Health (DOH-6), disclosed this after the roll out for the second dose of COVID-19 vaccine started last Monday, April 5.

Juanico told Manila Bulletin in an interview Friday, April 9, that the 4,883 health care workers received their second dose of Chinese-made Sinovac.

There are still remaining 24,497 out of the initial 29,380 health care workers who will receive their second dose.  

DOH-6 data previously revealed that 94,770 healthcare workers are eligible for COVID-19 vaccine in the regiona comprising of Aklan, Antique, Capiz, Guimaras, Iloilo, and Negros Occidental provinces as well as the highly urbanized cities of Iloilo and Bacolod.

Juanico said there are no reported adverse side effects for those who have been administered with either Sinovac or the AstraZeneca AZD1222, the vaccine made in Great Britain.
