Araw ng Kagitingan message: COVID-19 frontliners are our living heroes


CEBU CITY – As the country commemorated the “Araw ng Kagitingan” Friday, the Armed Forces of the Philippines-Central Command (AFP-Centcom) honored the so-called frontliners in the current fight against COVID-19.

Centcom Commander, Lt. Gen. Roberto Ancan, described the healthcare workers, soldiers, police and other frontliners as “living heroes” and thanked them for the services they rendered amidst the pandemic.
 
Ancan said these frontliners are similar to Medal of Valor awardees “who go beyond their duties” in helping steam the spread of the virus.
 
“Let us help them so we can further heal as one,” said Ancan.
 
Ancan delivered the speech during the opening of the photo exhibit at the Ayala Center-Cebu.
 
The exhibit features various photos that will remind the pubic of the contributions of the Medal of Valor awardees.
 
In an interview with reporters after the ceremony, Ancan said Centcom is prepared to send medical teams to the COVID-19-hight National Capitol Region (NCR).
 
“We will send medical teams as augmentation force,” said Ancan.
 
Ancan recalled that Centcom sent medical teams to Bacolod City and Iloilo City when the two areas logged high number of COVID-19 cases.
 
The AFP also came to Cebu’s rescue by sending medical teams at the time when Metro Cebu was experiencing a surge in COVID-19 cases.
