Oil tanker, bulk carrier collide in Cavite; PCG orders investigation

The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) is now conducting an investigation to determine the circumstances that led to the collision of an oil tanker and a bulk carrier off the waters of Cavite City on Wednesday, April 8.

PCG spokesman Commander Armand Balilo said immediately sent their personnel in the area which led to the rescue of the crew of the two ships.

"There was no oil spill, but the collision created some holes on the two ships," said Balilo.

“We will conduct an investigation. We will just make sure that all crew are safe and accounted for,” he added.

Balilo said they received the report about the collision at around 9 p.m. on Wednesday, between the oil motor tanker registered under the flag of Thailand, while the bulk carrier registered under the flag of Marshall Islands.

No crew members were injured during the incident, according to Balilo.

He added that the Port State Control (PSC) will issue notice of detention for both foreign vessels pursuant to the investigation.
