Manila LGU begins vaccinating seniors with Sinovac

The Manila city government on Thursday (April 8) began inoculating senior citizens in the city with coronavirus disease (COVID-19) vaccines made by Chinese biopharmaceutical company Sinovac.

This after the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) allowed the use of the said vaccine on senior citizens.

Manila Mayor Francisco "Isko Moreno" Domagoso welcomed the FDA's decision as it will allow the city government to continue vaccinating the elderly against the deadly disease.

In a live broadcast on Facebook on Wednesday night (April 7), Domagoso said it has been nearly a week since they vaccinated senior citizens because they no longer have supplies of the COVID-19 vaccine made by British-Swedish biopharmaceutical company AstraZeneca.

Data from the city government showed that 52,084 frontline workers, senior citizens, and people with comorbidities have been vaccinated in the capital city as of 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

As of Thursday, over 262,000 individuals have already pre-registered at the manilacovid19vaccine.ph website.
