DFA reports a huge spike in COVID-19 cases among overseas Filipinos


The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) on Thursday reported 483 new COVID-19 (coronavirus disease 2019) cases among Filipinos abroad, one of the biggest numbers this year, following an increase in active cases in a country in the Middle East.

In its latest COVID-19 bulletin, the DFA also recorded seven new recoveries and 7 fatalities involving overseas Filipinos. 

This brings the total number of overseas Filipinos afflicted with COVID-19 since the outbreak started in February last year to 17,064.

Of the total, 10,077 have recovered, 5,921 are undergoing treatment and 1,066 died from coronavirus infections.

To date, the total number of countries and territories with confirmed cases among Filipino nationals abroad remains at 91.
