Philhealth DID NOT invest "stolen" money in Bitcoin

The Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) the government agency that provides health insurance coverage for Filipinos cried foul over an April Fools day post of Crypto in Asia (@cryptoinasia), a Facebook page with more than a thousand followers saying that "Philthealth chief Dante Gierran admits: "stolen" money was actually invested in Bitcoin and has now grown more than 5.33 times". As of this posting, the Crypto in Asia FB post has 174 likes, 27 comments and 411 shares.

Philhealth on its official Facebook page said that there is no truth in the post of Crypto in Asia and that the agency would investigate and hold accountable those responsible for spreading the fake news.

The website of Crypto in Asia where the Facebook post is linked now shows a disclaimer on top of the story saying that the post is just an entry for April Fools day. In a message sent to Technews, Crypto in Asia said that "We think that fake news created with ill intent is definitely dangerous, so we are not at all for it let alone the act of actually spreading it." Crypto in Asia also said that the group is "glad that a lot of people caught on early that the story was an April Fools joke and meant mainly to advertise Bitcoin. However, some people have missed the joke, so we added the disclaimer to make it as clear as possible."

When asked if the group has a message to its followers, here's what Crypto in Asia said: "Imagine how much the PhP 15 billion would be now if they had invested it in DOGE?... But seriously, we hope that more people look into cryptocurrencies now. They should start with Bitcoin first and foremost. We haven’t finished preparing the 90% part of the site that’s going to be for crypto investing and trading guides so it all seems barren right now. Give us a couple of weeks and we’ll get there. Hope to share the journey and ride the bull with more Filipinos towards the end of the year!"
