Manila district hospitals at 90% occupancy for COVID-19 patients


District hospitals in the City of Manila have reached an occupancy rate of 90 percent for COVID-19 patients.

In a live broadcast on Facebook on Tuesday (March 30), Manila Mayor Francisco "Isko Moreno" Domagoso said 300 of the 333 COVID-19 beds in the city's six district hospitals are now occupied.

On March 29, Sta. Ana Hospital hit an occupancy rate of 150 percent in its COVID-19 facilities. On March 28, Gat Andres Bonifacio Memorial Medical Center (GABMMC) said it will limit admission to its COVID-19 wards and isolation areas after hitting an occupancy rate of 124.44 percent.

Other district hospitals, including Ospital ng Maynila Medical Center and Ospital ng Tondo, have suspended face-to-face consultations with patients amid the rising number of COVID-19 cases in the capital city.

Domagoso also announced that 542 or 62 percent of the 870 beds in the city's quarantine facilities are also occupied. The occupancy rate of isolation facilities for probable and suspect COVID-19 cases reached 163 percent.

In a span of three weeks, Manila has seen a 3,000-increase in its COVID-19 cases.

Data from the city government showed that as of Tuesday noon, the capital city has 4,045 active COVID-19 cases out of 40,188 confirmed cases, 35,249 recoveries, and 894 deaths.

Sampaloc has overtaken Tondo District 1 as the district with the highest number of active COVID-19 cases.

As of Tuesday, the city government has recorded 716 active cases in Sampaloc, 540 cases in Tondo District 1, and 420 cases in Tondo District 2.
