Construction works on the 3.9-kilometer Sucat-Alabang Skyway Extension Project will carry on despite the strict lockdown placed over Metro Manila, Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Sec. Mark Villar said.
On top of this, Villar expressed optimism that the project would be completed this 2021.
“Together with concessionaire San Miguel Corporation (SMC), we are targeting completion of the northbound segment by this second quarter while the southbound segment is being fast-tracked for delivery on or before the fourth quarter as part of our goal,” Villar said.
The ongoing works involve the extension of the Skyway from main line toll plaza in Sucat, Parañaque farther down South Luzon Expressway (SLEX) in Susana Heights near the Muntinlupa-Cavite Expressway.
The additional three lanes going north and two lanes going south will provide motorists a direct connection to Skyway 1 and 2 as well as the recently opened Skyway Stage 3.
Once completed, motorists coming from Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Quezon and Bicol Region can go straight to their destinations in Makati, Manila, San Juan, Quezon City, all the way to North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) through the Skyway extension project.
Menwhile, travel time from the Skyway main line toll plaza in Sucat, Parañaque to Susana Heights in South Luzon Expressway (SLEX) will be reduced by around 50 percent.
The project also covers the widening of the Skyway Alabang Toll Plaza to accommodate more motorists from both northbound and southbound directions.
The "NCR-plus" area covering the National Capital Region (NCR), Bulacan, Cavite, Laguna, and Rizal was placed under a week-long enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) beginning Monday, March 29.
