“Right now, there is no question that Vice President Leni Robredo, to us, is the most qualified to be the next president,” said Drilon, who is vice chairman of the Liberal Party (LP), in an interview on ABS-CBN News Channel.

"She is our chairman," he added.

But Drilon said whether or not Robredo decides to run for president in the upcoming May 2022 national elections is a personal matter.

“We will support her but the matter of running is a personal decision and up to this point, Vice President Leni Robredo has not decided to cast her hat in the national political race,” he said.

“That is where it is today. Those statements are really political in nature,” he pointed out.

Last February, Liberal Party President Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan said Robredo is among the former ruling party’s choices to be their standard bearer.

However, Robredo has avoided questions regarding her political plans saying that addressing the COVID-19 pandemic is her paramount aspiration.

The new electoral coalition led by Supreme Court Justice Antonio Carpio has considered Robredo—along with Manila Mayor Isko Moreno, Sen. Nancy Binay, Sen. Grace Poe and former Senator Antonio Trillanes IV—their prospective presidential candidate in the upcoming May polls.
