Robredo: We need to talk about 2022 elections

While she agreed that the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic should be the center of everyone's attention, Vice President Leni Robredo said it was still important to talk about the 2022 elections as it can be the turning point in the fight against the health crisis.

In an interview with Radyo Katipunan's "All Kaps! Ateneo Level Up!" program on Friday, March 26, Robredo said people can talk about the 2022 elections because there was too much at stake.

"Ako, tingin ko yung election sa 2022 dapat pag-usapan (For me, I think we need to talk about the 2022 elections)," she said.

"Too much is at stake in 2022. Para sa akin, pag naghiwahiwalay tayo, baka ang resulta nito (If we will not unite, the result may be) another six years of this kind of governance. Kayanin pa kaya natin (Can we really bear with that)?" she added.

What she disagreed with, however, is a presidential aspirant going around and making intentions obvious. She added that people should not lose interest in the elections just because she may not run at all.

"Hindi ako agree sa mga nagsasabi na kung hindi si VP hindi na lang (I don't agree with some people who are saying that if it's not me, they shouldn't bother at all)," Robredo said.

"Kasi hindi natin mahal yung bayan 'pag ganyan (If that's our attitude, then it shows that we don't love the country at all)," she added.

Meanwhile, Robredo said there should only be one candidate who will run against the administration's bet.

"Kailangan yung focus natin ngayon, magkaisa. Mag-agree tayo na mag-unite tayo (We need to focus on being united. We have to unite) under one common candidate," she said.

"Yung candidate na 'to dapat 'yan yung makakapag-unite sa lahat ng forces. Dapat 100 percent na pagtulungan natin (This candidate should be able to unite all forces. We should rally behind them 100 percent)," she added.

Robredo has no qualms if she will not be that candidate.

"Kung hindi ako yung makakagawa ng ganun, 100 percent suportahan natin kung sino man yun (If I won't be that candidate, then let's give all our support to whoever that person is)," she said.

Robredo had expressed that she was still not decided if she will run for president but said she was keeping her doors open.
