De los Santos continues hot streak with 11th gold in online karate

World No. 1 James De los Santos dominated No. 2 Domont Matias Moreno of Switzerland in the second leg of the Budva Winner for his 11th straight gold medal in e-kata competition.

De los Santos won against Moreno in the final 25.8-24.4 as the 30-year-old former national team member claimed his second Budva Winner gold medal after he won the first leg last February.

“I’m very happy with winning my 11th gold, but it won’t stop me from working harder for the next tournaments to come,” said De los Santos, who captured a total of 36 gold medals from online tournaments last year.

On his way to the final round, De los Santos edged Cornelius Johnsen of Norway 24.5-23.3 in the quarterfinal, and Alfredo Bustamante of the United States in the semifinal 25.5-24.7.

He downed Bustamante during the final of the first leg of Budva Winner.

Over the weekend, De los Santos reached gold medal No. 10 when he won the championship in the second leg of the E-Karate World Series with a win against Silvio Cerone-Biagioni of South Africa.
