Navotas gov’t closes gyms, spas, internet cafes

Navotas City Mayor Toby Tiangco has ordered the temporary closure of all gyms, fitness centers, spas, massage parlors and internet cafes in the city.

Under Executive Order 054 S-2021 signed Tuesday, Tiangco said the closure will take effect from March 24 until April 4, 2021, unless otherwise extended.

The order is in accordance with the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority Resolution No. 21-05 and the Department of Trade and Industry Memorandum Circular No. 21-11 which was issued to lessen the transmission of coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

“The Navotas City Hospital and our community isolation have reached their full capacity due to the continuous increase of COVID-19 infections in our city. We need to take all the precautionary and safety measures to reduce the possibility of virus transmissions," Tiangco said.

“Let us continue to wear our face mask properly, practice social distancing, wash and disinfect our hands, and stay home as much as we can. The safety protocols are our primary protection from the virus, especially the new and more transmissible variants,” he added.

The Department of Health earlier confirmed 10 cases of B.1.1.7 (UK) and one B.1.351 (South African) variants in the city.

As of Wednesday, March 24, Navotas has 1,037 active COVID cases.
