CA official confident Sara will heed public clamor, change mind on presidency

Davao Oriental Rep. Joel Mayo Z. Almario on Sunday, March 21, urged Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte to seek the presidency in 2022, saying that the  local chief executive is the “next best choice to carry on”  the gains that her father, President Rodrigo Duterte, started.

In a statement, Almario, majority leader of the Commission on Appointments, said recen surveys showing Mayor Duterte topping the presidential race ‘is a clear manifestaiton of the people’s support to the administration” of the incumbent president.

“There is a clamor for him to continue as president but because of the constitutional prohibition limiting the president to only a term, the presidential daughter is the next best  choice to carry on the administration’s fight against corruption and illegal drugs and push for national economic recovery through the Build, Build, Build program,” said Almario.

“Like her father, Sara is an avid big biker, a lawyer and a mayor,” noted Almario.

Mayor Duterte has earlier disclosed that she is not interested in the presidency.

However, Almario aired strong hopes that she will change her mind.

“Following the people’s sentiments and mass movements nationwide appealing for Mayor Sara to run for the presidency, she will be like her father who served Davao City as mayor and later became the President of the republic,” said Almario.

He added: “In fact, she may turn out to be more dynamic president given her age and political experience.”
