ILOILO CITY—An elderly lady believed to be a New People’s Army (NPA) rebel was nabbed following an encounter with the Philippine Army’s 12th Infantry Battalion (12 IB) in Janiuay town, Iloilo province.
Major Cenon Pancito III, spokesman of the 3rd Infantry Division (3ID), only identified the elderly lady rebel as “Bing”.
The 66-year-old native of La Carlota City was caught during the pursuit operations following the Tuesday encounter in Dabong village.
Pancito said she was nabbed after soldiers were tipped that she sought refuge at a house of a local villager when her NPA comrades fled following the encounter.
Aside from a pistol, government troops also seized ammunition components and electrical wires believed to be parts for an improvised explosive device (IED).
This comes as the NPA previously admitted to detonating the IED that hit a police patrol vehicle in the neighboring town of Lambunao. The March 12 incident injured a cop and a village councilor.
Meanwhile, the eldery lady rebel is now in the custody of the Philippine National Police (PNP) in January.
