A total of 17 individuals tested positive for COVID-19 in the two zones placed under lockdown in Barangay Pio del Pilar, Makati.
This was bared by Lawyer Michael "Don" Camiña, Makati City spokesman, to the Manila Bulletin on Monday (March 15).
In a phone interview, Camiña said out of the 169 residents they tested after placing the barangay under lockdown, 17 people turned out positive for the dreaded disease. The result came out on March 14.
“In the two zones in Barangay Pio del Pilar, 17 people tested positive for COVID-19. This is out of the 169 residents we tested,” he said.
As of March 14, he said that the city government has tested a total of 813 individuals in the two zones placed under lockdown.
He said that, at first, residents were hesitant to get tested. “But when we explained to them the reason why we are conducting RT-PCR tests, many of the residents volunteered to get tested on March 14.”
The test results of the other 644 individuals are yet to be released, Camiña said.
Through the data that the city will gather from the mass testing, he said the local government of Makati is eyeing to trace where the residents got infected in order to stem the transmission of COVID-19.
On March 13, Mayor Abigail “Abby” Binay placed two zones in Barangay Pio del Pilar under a three-day lockdown to stop the spread of COVID-19 in the community, starting 12:01 a.m. on March 13 until 11:59 p.m. on March 16.
Zone 1
• Mayor St. (from Cuangco St. to Jerry St.)
• Jerry St. (whole street)
• Cuangco St. (from Mayor St. to M. Reyes St.)
• M. Reyes St. (from Cuangco St. to Arguelles St.)
Zone 2
• Arguelles St. (from Evangelista St. to A. Apolinario St.
• Apolinario St. (from Arguelles St. to Calhoun St.)
• Calhoun St. (from A. Apolinario St. to Evangelista St.)
• Evangelista St. (from Calhoun St. to Arguelles St.)
Based on the data of the Makati Health Department (MHD), there are 25 confirmed cases and 42 close contact individuals in the two zones as of March 12.
Camiña said even Authorized Persons Outside Residence (APOR) in Zones 1 and 2 in Barangay Pio del Pilar are also prohibited to go outside their homes.
