You can't do that: Bohol provincial gov't halts resort's planned 'foam party'

The Provincial Government of Bohol was forced to put its foot down and stop a local resort from holding a two-day "foam party fashion show".

Ordered to "cease and desist" from hosting the shindig was Amanzara Resort by virtue of a memorandum from the Capitol.

A photo of the one-page memo was posted on the Bohol Capitol's Facebook page Friday night, March 12.

The document, signed by Provincial Administrator Kathyrin Pioquinto upon the authority of Gov. Arthur Yap, directed Panglao town Mayor Nila Montero to carry out the order on the resort.

"Per IATF (Inter-Agency Task Force) Omnibus Guidelines, only hotels or accommodation establishments with valid DOT (Department of Tourism) accreditation shall be allowed to accommodate guests and clients for legitimate purposes under a state of public health emergency," the memo read.

"The operations of such hotels and accommodation establishments as well as ancillary establishments within their premises such as restaurants, cafes, gyms, spas, function halls, and the like, shall be subject to guidelines issued by the DOT and the IATF. Upon verification, Amanzara Resort has not been issued an accreditation from the DOT," it stated.

The provincial government earlier received confirmation from DOT Region 7 that the particular resort wasn't a DOT-accredited entity.

It also didn't have an existing application for such status.

The foam party fashion show--which by its nature would attract guests in skimpy clothing--was supposed to be held from March 12 to March 13.

The provincial government also acknowledged how such an event could facilitate the spread of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) "Preventing the spread of the virus is way better than simply catching the resort or the attendees’ health protocol violation en flagrante," the Facebook post read.

"The Provincial Government of Bohol understands the need to jumpstart the tourism economy, we are your partner on this cause but only in a proper and decent manner; let alone can we tolerate violations of the law and ordinance under any circumstance," it further stated.
