DOT chief Puyat favors vaccination passports

Department of Tourism (DOT) Secretary Bernadette Romulo-Puyat said she is in favor of using vaccination passports, if only to help ease travel for Filipinos.

"Anything that would promote ease of travel restrictions, we are for it," Puyat said in a press conference Wednesday, March 10 at Loreland Farm Resort, Antipolo City, Rizal.

A vaccination passport is essentially a proof that an individual has been inoculated against the coronavirus disease (COVID-19). This proof can facilitate travel in the so-called new normal by having it digitized in a way that it can be recognized internationally.

"A lot of airlines abroad are saying that we will only accept those who are vaccinated. So anything that will make travel easier for everybody, we are in support (of)," Puyat said.

The Philippine government began last March 8 its mass vaccination campaign after receiving COVID-19 jab donations from China and through the World Health Organization (WHO)-lead COVAX facility.

Frontliner healthcare workers are being prioritized in the vaccine rollout.
