4.7-magnitude quake hits off Sarangani - Phivolcs


A magnitude 4.7 earthquake struck waters off the coast of Sarangani on Sunday noon, March 7, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.

Phivolcs said the quake took place at 12:43 p.m. and its epicenter was traced 78 kilometers (km) southeast of Sarangani, Davao Occidental.

The state seismology bureau said the quake was tectonic in origin and had a depth of 123 km.

Residents felt the earthquake at Intensity I in General Santos City, South Cotabato, and in the towns of Alabel and Malungon in Sarangani province.

A magnitude 3.6 earthquake rocked Davao del Norte at 10:55 a.m. on Sunday.

The temblor’s epicenter was plotted 8 kilometers (km) northwest of Island Garden City of Samal, Davao del Norte.
