The Department of Health (DOH) reported 3,439 more cases, pushing the total to 591,138. This was the second consecutive day that the DOH reported 3,000 infections in a single-day.

“Five duplicates were removed from the total case count. Of these, two are recoveries,” the DOH noted.

Of the overall tally, 7.3 percent or 43,323 are active cases. Of these cases, 90 percent have mild symptoms, 5.6 percent are asymptomatic, 1.8 percent are in critical condition, 1.8 percent have severe symptoms, while 0.75 percent are in moderate condition.

The death count also increased to 12,465 with 42 new fatalities. Meanwhile, 160 more patients have beaten the virus, raising the recovery count to 535,350, which accounts for 90.6 percent of the country’s overall COVID-19 tally.

The Health department urged the public to strictly comply with the minimum public health standards as the number of new cases are increasing. The DOH also recently detected cases of South African and United Kingdom variants of coronavirus.

“The current spikes cannot be solely attributed to the variants,” said Health Secretary Francisco Duque III in a press briefing at the Cardinal Santos Medical Center in San Juan City on Saturday, March 6.

“Yung pagkalat ng virus pwedeng mangyari iyan whatever is the variant. Whether it is the new variant, the usual circulating variant. Ang importanteng panlaban dito ay yung tinatawag natin na enhanced public health standards (The spread of the virus can happen whatever the variant is. Whether it is the new variant or the usual circulating variant. The important defense here is what we call enhanced public health standards)," Duque said. "You and I need to comply with that,” he added.
