Gen. Debold Sinas, chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP), has ordered the start of the dismissal proceedings against a police sergeant from Iloilo province who tested positive during a surprise drug test last month.

Staff Sgt. Ildefonso Dela Cruz was the only policeman from the 334 members of the Iloilo Provincial Police Office who were subjected to random drug testing on February 18. "He was already disarmed and ordered to be restricted to quarters until such time that his administrative case is resolved," said Sinas.

Last month, Sinas ordered all regional directors to dismiss within two months all the administrative cases relating to policemen who would test positive in drug test.

Sinas said Dela Cruz’s urine specimen labeled with alphanumeric code RDT-IP-864-2021, was initially screened by the RCLO-6 in Iloilo City as Positive for traces Methamphetamine. The same specimen was subjected to Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometer instrument test at the PNP Crime Laboratory in Camp Crame, which confirmed the presence of Methamphetamine, a dangerous drug.

Sinas said dela Cruz will undergo pre-charge investigation and summary dismissal proceedings.

More than 500 policemen have already been kicked out of the police service since 2016 after testing positive for the mandatory and random drug testing which is now a policy in the PNP.
