Village dad nabbed for illegal possession of guns


BACOLOD CITY – An incumbent barangay councilor in La Castellana, Negros Occidental was arrested for illegal possession of firearm and ammunition in Purok Kamunsil, Barangay Talaptap Tuesday.

Police identified the suspect as Edgar Taclima, 50, of Barangay Talaptap.

According to Police Capt. Ramel Bustamante, town police chief, personnel of the Provincial Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG), along with local policemen, raided Taclima’s house thru search warrant issued by Executive Judge Cyclamen Jison Fernandez of Regional Trial Court (RTC) 6 in La Carlota City.

Authorities recovered a .45 caliber pistol, a magazine, and eight live ammunition.

Taclima was reportedly asked to present any pertinent documents authorizing him to own and possess a firearm, but he failed to show proof to the law enforcers.

He was brought to the police station but was released from detention the following day after he posted bail for the offense, Bustamante said.

Bustamante said that they have not received any report or complaint against Taclima, who also previously served as a village chief.
