The total number of active cases stood at 37,226 or 6.4 percent of the overall tally, based on the latest case bulletin of the DOH.

Meanwhile, 266 more recoveries were recorded, bringing the number of survivors in the country to 535,037.

The DOH also reported 15 new fatalities, pushing the death toll to 12,404.

DOH Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire encouraged local government units (LGUs) to further enhance their localized response against the COVID-19 pandemic.

"It was agreed in the meeting that we need to have stricter implementation of our Prevent, Detect, Isolate, Treat, and Reintegrate (PDITR) strategy," said Vergeire.

"Once they find the close contacts, they should be placed under quarantine within 24 hours so that we can cut the transmission immediately," she added.

Vergeire also said that LGUs need to strictly monitor the compliance of their constituents on the minimum public health standards.
