World-class Filipino fashion designer Rocky Gathercole passes away

World-class Filipino fashion designer Rocky Gathercole passed away on March 3.


Words of sympathy poured in the comment's section of his social media platforms.


Known for his avant-garde creations, Gathercole dressed up Hollywood stars Jennifer Lopez, Thalia, Britney Spears, Katy Perry, Nicki Minaj, etc.

Gathercole was a homeless kid before he made it big in the fashion world. He ran away from home when he was 14. His life story has been featured in "Maala-ala Mo Kaya" in 2017.


"Battered child ako. Kung baga, part ko talaga yun. Kung bibigyan ako ng , gusto kong tumulong sa mga kabataan," he said, during an interview for ABS-CBN in 2016.

Gathercole did not finish high school. Later, he was able to fly to Saudi Arabia where his employer helped him become a fashion designer.


His unique fashion flavor helped put the Philippines on the global runway, especially in Dubai and Saudi Arabia, where he was based for several years.

On March 3, Gathercole shared his final post on Facebook. He uploaded a video where he asked his friends to guess the owner of the costume he was making.

"Let's play a guessing game, guess who is this costume I am making for?" wrote Gathercole in his caption.
