Cha Eun Woo will take a departure from romantic comedies to star in a dark fantasy drama alongside Kim Nam Gil and Seo Ye Ji.

According to reports, the True Beauty star was offered a role to play a priest in the OCN drama, Island. His agency Fantagio confirmed the news and said that Cha Eun Woo was positively reviewing the role.

Based on the character description, Cha Eun Woo’s potential role is for a character named John, a priest who grew up in America but retained his fluency in his mother tongue through watching Korean dramas. John has a bright personality but seems to hide a mysterious past.

Island is a fantasy drama based on a popular webtoom centered on a man named Pan (Kim Nam Gil) an immortal who is desperate to end his life, Won Mi Ho (Seo Yea Ji) an heiress haunted by goblins, and John, the priest.

The role will be a major challenge to Cha Eun Woo’s acting ability since the material is a departure from the cutesy roles he previously played on dramas like Revenge Note, My ID is Gangnam Beauty, Rookie Historian Hoo Hae Yung, and his most recent hit, True Beauty.

OCN is expected to release Island in the first half of 2021. The drama is expected to run for 10 episodes.
