Suspect in the killing of Bacoor cop nabbed

One of the two suspects tagged in the killing of a police officer in Rosario, Cavite has been captured, the local police chief said Monday, March 1.

Jhon Perea, nephew of one of the suspects-at-large identified as Antonio Perea, who is the bodyguard of Rosario Mayor Voltaire Ricafrente, was arrested during a follow-up operation on Friday, according to Rosario Police Chief Col. Joewie Lucas.

Lucas did not reveal the details on how the younger Perea was apprehended but said that he was subjected to inquest proceedings on Monday.

The younger Perea is one of the two suspects in the killing of Pat. Jerome Carlo Pamaran, 31, of the Bacoor City Police. Pamaran and his father Jose Edgardo Pamaran were shot by the suspects in front of their home, police said.

Investigation showed there was a fistfight between the younger Perea and a certain Calvin Herrera which the Pamarans attempted to pacify. The younger Pamaran introduced himself as a police officer but the younger Perea said that he will call his uncle before leaving the scene.

Both suspects later returned and went to the victims’ residence. The younger Perea had told his uncle that the younger Pamaran pointed a gun at him earlier and threatened him. This resulted in a misunderstanding that led to the shooting incident.

The younger Pamaran tried to fire back but was hit in the head, while his father was hit multiple times in the body.

Both victims were rushed to St. Martin Hospital for treatment. The police officer died while being treated while the older Pamaran is recuperating from his injuries. A follow-up operation was  conducted that led to the arrest of one of the suspects.

Lucas said Ricafrente will cooperate with the police on the capture of his bodyguard. The mayor said they have not been able to contact the older Perea.
