Warmer early mornings expected due to easterlies - PAGASA

There are no more cold early mornings after the prevailing easterlies  continue to bring humid winds from the Pacific, the state weather bureau said Sunday, Feb. 28.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said the easterlies remain as the dominant weather system currently affecting the country, particularly over southern Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.

“‘Yung napapansin nating mainit at maalinsangang panahon, hindi na rin kalamigan yung early morning temperature natin, dahil po 'yan sa umiiral na easterlies o hangin na mula sa silangan (The warm and humid weather we are now experiencing, and our early morning temperature will no longer be cold, that is because of the existing easterlies or winds from the east),” said Cris Perez, senior weather specialist.

He explained that the easterlies have high moisture content and high temperature.

“Ito po ‘yung kabaligtaran ng amihan na cold and dry, at kapag umiral ito, ito ‘yung nagdudulot ng maalinsangang panahon (This is the opposite of northeast monsoon which is cold and dry, and when it is present, it will cause warm weather),” Perez added.

Based on its afternoon weather update, Metro Manila may experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers especially in the afternoon or evening.

Partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers may also affect the rest of the country in the next 24 hours.

This is due to the prevailing easterlies and localized thunderstorms, the state-run agency said.

People were warned that possible flash floods or landslides may occur during severe thunderstorms.
